Tour Description
Tourists have an opportunity to take part in a nine-day tour through Romanian Carpathians, Maramures Massif, Hutsul Alps and the Chornohora range in the Ukrainian Carpathians.
This tour is for those tourists that want to conquer the highest peaks of Ukrainian and Romanian mountains. Tourists must have personal tourist equipment and possess basic skills of hiking in the mountains. Moreover, the participants of the tour have an opportunity to visit famous tourist centers of the region: Yaremche, Vorokhta, Verkhovyna, Kosiv and Kolomyia.
The number of tourists in the group varies from 8 to 40 persons.
The first day of the tour starts in Maramures County (Romania).
Maramures Mountains stretch from the Romanian border. This mountain massif is the highest one and is accumulation of several ethnographic regions (Romanian Maramures, Zakarpattia, Southern and Northern Bukovyna and Halychyna).
The main tourist objects are Vaser Valley, well-known for the railroad, which length is more than 40km.
As Maramures Mountains are situated in the northern part of Eastern Carpathians, they are surrounded by: Bukovyna in the East, Mt. Rodna and Maramures lowland in the South, as well as Rakhiv mountains, Chornohory and Chyvchyn mountain ranges (Ukraine) in the North.
The highest peaks of Ukrainian Carpathians are situated in Chornohora range, including the highest mountain in Ukraine ‒ Mt. Hoverla (2061m). There are also a number of mountains, which are more than 2km high: Brebeneskul (2036m), Pip Ivan (2028m), Petros (2022m), Hutyn-Tomnatyk (2016m) and Rebra (2001m). The mountains are separated one from another by not very deep anticlines, the height of which from Hoverla to Pip Ivan does not go lower than 1750m. On the top of Mt. Pip Ivan, there are the ruins of Polish Astronomical and Meteorological Observatory (with the nickname Bily slon – White Elephant), built in 1936-1938. It is the highest elevated building in Ukraine. The walls and the footing of the observatory are in a rather good condition. The solitary building, that dominates the mountain peaks, makes a unique, almost cosmic impression.
Chornohora is also famous for its high-mountain lakes – Brebeneskul (2036m above sea level), Nesamovyte (1750m above sea level) and Maricheika (1510m above sea level).
Chornohora challenges all the lovers of active rest. Here you will tread steep paths, and taste traditional foods of Hutsul cuisine no matter what the season.
