In the lowlands of the Carpathians snow cover stays, as a rule, from the beginning of December till the end of March, and in the highlands ‒ from October till the end of May or the beginning of June, which is an important factor in the development of ski tourism.

The territory of the Carpathian Region (Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast and Maramures County) is characterized by the availability of ski lifts suitable for skiing and snowboarding and for the use of beginners, children, amateurs and professionals.

The following ski areas are the most popular in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast: Palianutsia, Yablunytsia, Vorokhta in Yaremche town council, Kosiv, Sheshory and Tyudiv in Kosiv district, Verkhovyna, Vyshkiv in Dolyna district and ski areas in Maramures County ‒ Borsha, Izvoare, Mohosha, Sujor and Kavnik.

The development of skiing and winter kinds of leisure facilitates the development of rural tourism in the region, as well as the creation of additional services for the guests, such as ski and tourist equipment rentals, objects of public catering, organization of leisure-time and active rest for tourists.
